LAGUNA BEACH, CA — A northern fur seal pup who was found last October was released into the wild after being successfully rehabilitated at the Pacific Marine Mammal Center in Laguna Beach, Stu News Laguna reported.

The seal pup, since named "Sweet P," was initially found on the shores of Newport Beach. When she was taken into the center, wildlife vets found that she was severely dehydrated, emaciated and had lacerations on her face and flippers.

“Sweet P’s release exam showed that she more than doubled her weight since arriving at the hospital and is in good physical condition,” Associate Veterinarian Dr. Kaylee Brown told Stu News Laguna. “Today we are taking her two miles offshore to the continental shelf, placing her closer to a northern fur seal rookery on the Channel Islands.”
