LAGUNA BEACH, CA — Travelers aboard Dana Wharf Sportfishing and Whale Watching's Ocean Adventure vessel were treated to a rare sight this week off the coast of Laguna Beach: a lone sperm whale.

"We were able to watch an entire breathing cycle that lasted over six minutes," said Nona Reimer of Dana Wharf Sportfishing and Whale Watching. "Then, the largest of the toothed whales made its terminal dive sending its flukes straight up in the air."

According to the report, the sperm whale may have been in the area looking for a mate.
