Son Charged With Murdering Mother, 61, With Hammer In Laguna Beach

LAGUNA BEACH, CA — A 36-year-old man was charged Monday with beating his mother to death with a hammer in Laguna Beach.

Safford Wolfson was charged with murder with a sentencing enhancement for the personal use of a deadly weapon.

According to authorities, Wolfson used a hammer to kill his 61-year-old mother in Laguna Beach last week.

Laguna Beach Police officers were called at around 11 a.m. Monday to a home in the 1300 block of Dunning Drive, where Angela Caprioli of Main was found dead, police said.

It was not clear what prompted the attack.

Wolfson did not enter a plea at his arraignment Monday in the Harbor Justice Center in Newport Beach. The hearing was rescheduled for Oct. 1.

His bail was set at $1 million.
