Thursday Surf Report: Wait Until The Tide Begins to Drop

The surf picks up a bit!

Good Thursday morning, I'm Surf Junkie Jeff with your Laguna Beach Patch surf report.  Well, we're seeing a little more swell on tap today.  Unfortunately, this stretch of coast is pretty blocked by the latest energy, but you can find some playful-size waves at the better combo spots.

The conditions are mostly clean and glassy early on, with a mixture of energy out there.  We're seeing mainly west-northwest and northwest swells in the water and very little southerly energy to speak of.

That recipe is offering some kinda dumpy lines that are breaking close to the beach at many spots early on due to the incoming mid-morning high tide.  Things should improve a bit once that tide begins to drop.

Most spots in Laguna Beach are pulling knee- to waist-high waves, with the standout breaks seeing some belly-high-plus sets.

At 8:01 this morning the tide climbs way up to a 5.7 high, which will have many spots pretty swamped and inconsistent throughout the morning.  The tide then drains out to a negative 0.8 low at 2:37 this afternoon.

If you're planning on paddling, throw on at least a 3/2 full or better yet a 4/3 and maybe the booties, with the water temp hanging between 56 and 58 degrees.  Have fun out there!
