Two Arrested in Laguna Beach Vehicle Burglary Ring

A ring of vehicle thefts was solved by Laguna Beach Police Detectives, after two suspects were identified, police say.

LAGUNA BEACH, CA - Two Inland Empire residents were arrested following a string of vehicle burglaries, Laguna Beach police said.

"On June 3, 2017, LBPD Officers responded to multiple vehicle burglary reports throughout north Laguna Beach," Laguna Beach police information officer Jim Cota said. "Detectives were called in to assist with the investigation and during their follow-up identified several suspects in the case," he said.

"On June 8, 2017, LBPD Detectives went to the City of Redlands to conduct surveillance and interview one of the suspects, Rachel Alvarez. Alvarez confessed to her involvement in the burglaries and a second suspect was identified, Johnny Cervantez," he said.

Laguna Beach Detectives, with assistance from the San Bernardino Police Department, executed a search warrant on a residence in San Bernardino to search for Cervantez and recover additional stolen property.

"The following morning, Cervantez turned himself into the Laguna Beach Police Department," he said.

Alvarez and Cervantez were booked into Orange County Jail for possession of stolen property and drug and theft related charges.

"This investigation is ongoing and Detectives are still pursuing additional suspects in this case," he said.
