LAGUNA BEACH, CA — Two whales were spotted appearing to play near the shoreline in Laguna Beach on March 23, The Orange County Register reported.

The breathtaking encounter was filmed by Orange County resident Maria Bishop, who was visiting Aliso Beach with her husband when they saw the a group of about 50 people on the sand watching the whales near the beach's south end, the report said.

"Everyone was still; no one got closer or talked," Bishop told the newspaper. "It was so close, and the waves were breaking just at the edge. There was no sound, which made it so intense. Everyone was focused on the water."
