What Happened to Mosun?

The restaurant and nightclub shut its doors earlier this week. It's a mystery why.

Mosun Sushi & Sake and its popular nightclub, Club M, has shut its doors, apparently for good.

The restaurant, , was last open Sunday night, Aug. 7, but the next morning, employees arriving found all the windows covered over with brown paper and several CLOSED signs ringing Mosun's exterior. A sign out front said CLOSED MOSUN FOR PAYCHECK EMPLOYEE CALL 949-607-7054.

Mosun had been in business since 2001 and reportedly had about 40 employees, according to sources. Messages left by Laguna Beach Patch at the phone number haven't been returned as of Saturday, Aug. 13. The restaurant's website seems to have been taken down, but its Facebook page and Twitter accounts appear to still be active (though the last tweet was made Aug. 5).

With the recent wave of new restaurant openings in Laguna Beach, it's almost surprising that one has shuttered, and so suddenly. But given the state of the economy—and business rents in the city, which can be as high as $30,000 per month—perhaps it's not too surprising after all.
