Woman Steps in Front of Amtrak Train

A woman died when she stepped in front of a train in San Clemente. The investigation into her death caused commuter delays for hours.

A pedestrian apparently stepped in front of an Amtrak train in San Clemente today and was killed.

The train slammed into the woman just before 1:25 p.m. and it appears to be a suicide, according to Orange County sheriff’s Lt. Jeff Hallock.

The train struck the woman in the 1800 block of Avenida Estacion, close to a Metrolink train station in the north beach area, Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Steve Concialdi said.

The incident caused delays for hours as authorities worked the accident scene this afternoon, according to Metrolink spokesman Jeff Lustgarten. The tracks were cleared as of 4:30 p.m., but delays will continue through the night, he said.

“We’ll be playing catch-up for quite awhile with 30 minutes to an hour delays,” Lustgarten said.
