Woman Swept Into Sea Suffered Heart Attack After Almost Drowning In Laguna Beach: Report

LAGUNA BEACH, CA — A woman suffered a heart attack and nearly drowned when strong waves swept her and her friends out to sea while she was walking on the beach, ABC7 reported.

The incident happened on Saturday, Aug. 15 when police issued a notification regarding a double-rescue happening near Aliso Creek and Pacific Coast Highway.

The location was just two miles from the spot where a 5-year-old girl drowned after being swept into the sea by a strong wave.

According to ABC7, 49-year-old Teresa Tran met her best friends for a walk along Aliso Beach when the women were blindsided by the high surf.

Two waves hit the trio in succession, knocking them down each time, the report said. When a third wave came, the women were pulled underwater, and Tran was knocked unconscious.

According to lifeguards, Tran suffered a heart attack due to the stress of nearly drowning.

"Her last memory in the water is she just recalls not being able to fight anymore, and she was just thinking, 'I need to keep trying,'" daughter Amanda Trinh told ABC7. "But then, eventually, she kept swallowing so much water, and she just gave up."
