Adults Can Attend Summer Camp To Raise Funds To Send Kids To Camp
The Ocean Awareness Challenge will take place in a fun summer camp environment September 9-11, 2016 Emerald Bay, Santa Catalina Island.
The Women’s Sailing Association – Orange County invites you to come to camp, so you can send kids to camp! Dana Point, CA – The Ocean Awareness Challenge will take place in a fun summer camp environment September 9-11, 2016 Emerald Bay, Santa Catalina Island. The Ocean Awareness Challenge (OAC) will take place in a fun summer camp environment September 9-11, 2016 Emerald Bay, Santa Catalina Island. The OAC has a primary goal, marine education. Whether it’s by listening to our distinguished speakers discuss the status of the ocean as well as threats and solutions via presentations and active hands-on workshops or by snorkeling in a Marine Protected Area, participants will gain an expanded awareness about the condition of our ocean.
Women’s Sailing Association – Orange County members conceived and created the OAC as a way to help save and protect the ocean and to give back through education. Knowledge is power, which is why all proceeds raised during the OAC event will provide scholarships to send underserved youth, from Southern California, to attend Mountain and Sea Adventures (MSA) marine education camps where they will learn to be good stewards of the ocean and world changers within their communities.
It costs $249 to send one child to the MSA camp for three days/two nights of programs, which is equivalent to the cost of two days admission at a local amusement park. During their time at the MSA camp, each camper participates in marine science labs including: Fish Lab Snorkel, Bird Lab Kayak, Invertebrate/Vertebrate Touch Tank Lab, Natural History Hike, Turtle Hurdles Bio-diversity Game, Plastics & Pollution with Solutions Lab, Astronomy, Trust Walk, plus all necessary lab materials (wetsuits, snorkel gear, kayaks, etc.), round-trip ferry transportation, two nights in a tent cabin and six meals are included.

By hosting the OAC event at the site of the MSA camp, OAC attendees will gain a greater understanding of not only the camp, but of the ocean as a vital living resource that needs to be treated with care and respect. Emerald Bay Cove is considered to be one of the top 10 snorkeling spots in the world. Attendees will also enjoy an outdoor viewing of the award-winning MacGillivray Freeman Films, documentary, Humpback Whales and so much more.
While the weekend is about marine preservation and education, there will also be a lot of fun! Black Magic Rum will provide complimentary happy hours and there will be live music for dancing under the stars. All meals are included along with a beach barbeque and bonfire.
