OC Boy Scout Works To Build Neighborhood Library In South Orange County

SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, CA — A South Orange County teen is working to make his community a better place.

15-year-old Sawyer Corrado is working on earning his Eagle Rank in Boy Scouts by completing his Eagle project: building a neighborhood library for the Juaneno Band Mission Indians in San Juan Capistrano.

"The library will house information about the tribe and its history for visitors," Sawyer told Patch. "I project this project to cost $800 for materials and volunteer refreshments during the multi-day installation."

To fund his project, Sawyer is raising money via GoFundMe — so far, the boy scout has raised $455 out of an $800 goal.

The Juaneno Band Mission Indians — also known as the Acjachemen — are an indigenous people of California with ancestral lands ranging from Aliso Creek in Orange County to Las Pulgas Canyon in San Diego County.
