DANA POINT, CA — A fixture at the Dana Point Harbor is closing its doors for good this year.
Wind & Sea Restaurant will close permanently on Sept. 15 after 54 years of service, restaurant owners said this week.
"While our hearts are heavy, we are filled with immense gratitude for the incredible journey we've been fortunate to share with you," Wind & Sea owners posted on Instagram. "The legacy of this place lives on through memories created within these walls, the friendships formed around our tables, and the countless stories that will continue to be told."
Wind & Sea opened in 1972 and remained open "every single day of the year," owners said.
The harbor-side restaurant boasted idyllic views of the water, fresh seafood and famed Mai Tais.
Local residents responded unfavorably to the news.
"Wind & Sea is where we decided to make a home here over 30 years ago. The Covid drive-thru Mai Tais and kindness of the staff were our remedy for no social time," Donna Pericone wrote on Facebook. "You will be greatly missed. More than you know."
"There is no way for you to reopen after construction? My family has been going there since the '80s, and so have my kids. You have been so special to us," Kaitlin Gibson wrote on Instagram. "We have celebrated Easters, birthdays, Thanksgivings, and promotions with you. We will be there every weekend until you close."
Wind & Sea Restaurant is located at 34699 Golden Lantern in Dana Point.
