Man Who Impregnated 8th Grader Convicted Of Sexual Assault Against Girls

SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, CA — A 43-year-old man was convicted Tuesday of sexually assaulting three girls, including one he impregnated in San Juan Capistrano.

One of Raul Cruz-Camacho's victims testified how she began to experience pregnancy-related symptoms in eighth grade that led her to a hospital in San Juan Capistrano in November 2019.

"My stomach just kept hurting," she testified. "I was throwing up... I wasn't feeling good."

She also experienced headaches that lasted several days. After about a week or two, the defendant suggested the girl's mother should take her to a hospital, she said.

She said she couldn't run in physical education at school anymore.

"I was just holding my stomach so the pain would go away," she testified.

She lost about a month of school, she said. She vomited several times a day and had trouble keeping any meals down.

When physicians determined she was pregnant she said the defendant, who she lived with, assaulted her, she testified. Her mother was "angry" and "crying" when she heard the news, she said.

The victim said she had the pregnancy terminated shortly afterward.

The victim said he would force her mouth open to orally copulate him, she testified.

The victim said she was "too afraid" to tell anyone. She also said he would take her along to the store and sexually assault her in a car. She began to realize how wrong the assaults were in seventh grade when she had sex education, she said.

The first time he assaulted her he "dragged me" to his bed and when he was done he directed her to go watch television with her siblings, she said.

The victim tearfully testified how she also saw the defendant molest two other girls in her family.

Cruz-Camacho was convicted of five counts of rape, two counts of forcible lewd act on a child, a count of forcible oral copulation on a child younger than 14, and a count of sexual penetration by force of a child younger than 14, all felonies.

Cruz-Camacho was scheduled to be sentenced Jan. 29.
