DANA POINT, CA — Damage incurred by brutal wave activity pummeling Southern California beaches led to the demolition of several beachfront homes in Dana Point, city officials said.
In a Monday morning update, the City of Dana Point announced that there are now seven homes red-tagged, 13 homes yellow-tagged, two homes demolished and one scheduled to be demolished in the Capistrano Bay District.
Some tagged homes are on the verge of collapsing into the sea — and in the most impacted neighborhoods, sidewalks were buckling and falling into the ocean Monday morning amid high tides from the remnants of Tropical Storm Rachel, ABC7 reported.
The neighborhood is no stranger to wave damage. Just last month, another storm led officials to red-tag eight homes and demolish two.

Capistrano Beach resident Lauri Torres told ABC7 that she fears her home could be next.
"I came home, and one the 9th, we came in, and our deck was starting to cave," Torres told the outlet. "And then I went to the neighbors two doors down and saw their entire deck was off. And I saw their deck the first day that it was off, the second day, their house fell. I mean, it happened fast."
Dana Point residents were advised to remain vigilant of the tides and strong surf through Tuesday.
