MOVIE REVIEW: The 'Campaign'
Now playing at Regency in Laguna Niguel. Congressman Cam Brady suddenly has an opponent in the race for office for the first time in 5 years.
Cam Brady (Will Ferrell) has been the Democratic Congressman in the 14th District of North Carolina for 5 years straight. This is majorly in part to the fact that he has run unopposed in the small Southern Town every time he has run. This is, until, two “Big Business” moguls come to take over. What they need is a candidate who’s foolish enough to be persuaded to do it, without knowing the actual purpose behind it.
Enter, Marty Huggins (Zach Galifianakis).
Marty is a longstanding member of the 14th district of Hamden, in North Carolina. He serves as the town’s director of tourism, leading each and every daily tour around the city. To say that he is simple minded would be an understatement. Marty is a jovial man who sports a variety of comical Cosby-esk sweaters throughout the film. His sole purpose in life is to make his father (a powerful ex-politician) proud of him. He see’s running for Congress as his chance to do just that.

And so the comedy ensues. The movie has an abundance of slapstick humor that sees Ferrell punch a baby, leave an overly sexually explicit message by mistake to a lovely potential voters’ family and more.
The movie chronicles the two as they duke it out on the campaign trail, each of them vying for votes along the way. The movie does actually tie together nicely in the end, and is ultimately a story of being true to oneself and showing who you really are and what you stand for.

Be warned, as hilarious as this movie is, it may not be first date material. There are too many curse words to count. I was even a little shocked at the vulgarity, even though most of it fit in with the story pretty well. F bombs, M-F’s and the like are scattered throughout the film.
Overall a good movie, if you want to laugh out loud, early and often, go and see the film.
I give it 4.5 patches out of 5 !
