Proud Mary's 'Proudly' Serving Up Meals at Harbor

Proud Mary's comfortable, harbor side location and hearty breakfast options, make this a great location for a morning outing any day of the week.

On a warm and sunny morning this week, my daughter and I headed down to Dana Point harbor to to try out their breakfast. It is located at 34689 Golden Lantern, next to the

There is a nice bar area near the entrance and we could see the inviting patio seating at the far end of the restaurant. We chose a table near the edge, so we could have the best view. Since the patio is bordered by low, half walls and no windows, there is an open air feeling, especially with the slatted ceiling. The long, narrow patio allows almost every table an excellent view.

We could look out onto the harbor where we saw boats, paddle boarders and morning walkers. Inside, Proud Mary’s is casual and beach-y, with lots of potted palms, rattan chairs, and is decorated in blues and tans.

We reviewed the menu to see our options. The first section offers a variety of breakfast sandwiches with eggs, and breakfast meats and cheeses on a variety of breads. Breakfast combinations offer traditional morning favorites together with toast and home fries or other appropriate sides.

Steak and eggs, biscuits and gravy, huevos rancheros and eggs Benedict are all found here. There are several breakfast burritos, including a steak burrito, a Denver burrito, and some with the home fries served inside the tortilla. They also prepare a variety of scrambles and omelets. If you love your carbs in the morning, there are plain and banana nut pancakes, French toast and oatmeal.

We both ordered coffee and fresh squeezed orange juice. The coffee, which was good, was served in pretty, white mugs and the juice came in large glasses, served over ice, which was perfect on such a warm day. For my meal, I chose the croissant supreme, a croissant with a slice of Provolone, scrambled eggs and bacon. My daughter selected the California scramble, eggs scrambled with grilled turkey, tomatoes, bacon, and topped with avocado.

The view and the atmosphere of Proud Mary’s are very pleasant and relaxing, and we enjoyed both as we chatted and waited for our meal. The staff kept our coffee cups filled, which is important for any breakfast spot.

Our food arrived on pretty square plates and was presented simply. Both meals looked appealing and the California scramble was served with home fries and wheat toast. My daughter loved her breakfast. It was well prepared, the ingredients were fresh and the portions were generous. My croissant was warm and the Provolone cheese was melted and covered with scrambled eggs and two strips of crisp bacon. It was quite good.

We enjoyed the casual atmosphere and good food at Proud Mary’s. We thought the service was friendly, but not lightning quick. This is a fun place to try. They are open daily from 8 a.m.to 2 p.m. for breakfast and lunch.

I give Proud Mary’s 3 ½ Patches out of 5.
