Brush Fire Halted In Laguna Niguel

A vegetation fire was reported off Alicia Parkway in Laguna Niguel, near Aliso Viejo. A power outage was also reported in the area.

LAGUNA NIGUEL, CA — A brush fire was reported at just before 9:30 a.m. Tuesday morning, in the area of Alicia Parkway and Marketplace Drive, according to Orange County Fire Authority. Smoke could be seen from Aliso Viejo, according to residents.

"The fire was on the hillside between Aliso Niguel High School and Alicia Parkway," OCFA Capt. Daryll Milliot said. There was no threat to any nearby buildings, however Alicia Parkway was closed from Avila to Marketplace South.

The forward progress on the fire was stopped as of 10:15 a.m., OCFA Capt. Daryll Milliot said.

At the same time, a power outage of almost 600 homes was also reported, according to Southern California Edison. A spokesperson stated that power should be restored to the area by 11 a.m.

Though residents reported "hearing a loud pop or explosion" that might have ignited the blaze, the actual cause of the fire has not yet been released.
