Dana Point 'Accidental Shooting' Leads To 10-Hour Standoff: OCSD

DANA POINT, CA ā If you saw police vehicles in Dana Point this weekend, this is why. A 10-hour standoff came to a close late Sunday, following tense conditions at the Tennis Villas at Monarch Beach.
Neighbors reported hearing gunshots at just before 11:30 a.m. Sunday, according to sheriff's officials. The standoff that followed lasted 10 hours, Orange County Sheriff's Department said.
"Deputies were called at 11:24 a.m. Sunday to the unit at the Tennis Villas at Monarch Beach in the 100 block of Centre Court after neighbors reported hearing gunshots," Orange County Sheriff's Department Lt. Lane Lagaret said. "A woman left the unit after deputies arrived and told them the shots were an accident. The man, meanwhile, refused to come out."

Deputies obtained a search warrant for the residence and evacuated adjoining units, Lagaret said.
The SWAT team arrived and fired tear gas into the unit about 7:30 p.m.

At about 9:30 p.m. the suspect was removed from the unit on a gurney, according to news photos from the scene.
The sheriff's department Tweeted:
"SWAT made entry after deploying gas. Subject taken into custody. Community is safe."
