Dana Point Beaches Under Bacteria Advisory, OCHCA says

DANA POINT, CA — A rain advisory is in effect for Orange County beaches according to the Orange County Health Care Agency.

Most recent sampling results at Dana Point's many swim and surf spots have tested to exceed safe bacteria levels.

"Ocean water bacteria levels exceed state health standards and may cause illness," the OCHCA said. "The Environmental Health staff advises swimmers that levels of bacteria can rise significantly in ocean and bay waters adjacent to storm drains, creeks and rivers."

Swimmers should avoid coastal waters impacted by storm drains, creeks and rivers during rain events according to OCHCA. Beach users should avoid contact with any runoff on the beach during dry or wet weather conditions, they said.

According to OCHCA, Ocean or bay water advisories are issued to alert the public of real or possible elevated bacteria levels associated with urban and storm runoff at outlets, such as storm drains, creeks and rivers that can impact ocean and bay waters.
