Local paddle boarder Shae Foudy will be on hand at her regular training beach, and according to SUP magazine interview, she loves that the biggest race in the world is right in her backyard.

"It's so insane," she said in interview. "It's five minutes from my house. Definitely got that home-court advantage if you want to call it that."

Advice for racers?

"Go the day before and study what the ocean’s doing. Study the wave and get a feel for what that wave’s like," she told SUP. "I think if there are waves for the race day it’s best to set yourself up mentally and go into it with confidence. Waves are a different animal; it’s not like racing flatwater. It’s kind of a different sport in a way."

This year, Foudy hopes to win her events.

"I’m going to shoot to win. But we’ll see what happens. I know everyone will be there and that makes it even better and more exciting," she told SUP in interview. "But I’m definitely going to do my best for myself and for my sponsors, but mostly for myself. It would be even sweeter to win at Doheny because that’s where I grew up."
