Dana Point Library May See Sunday Closures
If the city decides to cut library hours for the Dana Point Library, they could save $45,000 annually.
DANA POINT, CA ā The Dana Point Branch Library may see Sunday closures in the near future. Dana Point City Council will decide whether or not to close the library on Sundays by issuing a 120-day notice to end the agreement the city has with the County of Orange during the council's Tuesday meeting.
If the city decides to cut Sundays out of the library's schedule, it would save Dana Point $45,000 annually, according to the staff report. As it stands, Dana Point is the only city in Orange County that pays for the extra library hours. The city previously included Sunday operation in 2009 under guidance from the community and the library's sub-committee.
According to the County Librarian, the Dana Point Branch Library sees the lowest attendance on Sundays. The County Librarian also said that due to the current circumstances with smaller staffs due to retirements during the COVID-19 pandemic, closing the library on Sunday would allow the county to more effectively staff the library and provide services to community members on other days of the week.
