DANA POINT, CA — A group of 7th grade middle school boys from Dana Point are seeing their Orange County Sheriff's Department officers in a whole new light thanks to "Donuts and Dodgeball"--or Beignets and Basketball. The sweet treats and a little one-on-one sports were delivered to the school by the sheriff's as a promised in a winning bid of a St. Edward's Parish School silent auction.

On Tuesday, Dana Point Orange County Sheriff's Department officers paused their police work to play basketball the 7th Grade Volleyball Team of Dana Point's St. Edward's Parish school.

"Dana Point OCSD was generous enough to donate this event at our annual fundraiser silent auction, allowing kids to play a game with some of the community officers," Evers said.

The mother who won the bidding decided to make the donuts event their end of the year team party for the volley ball sports team, according to Evers.

OCSD Deputy Timmins, the community resources officer for St. Edward's Parish School, came from 3 to 4 p.m. on Monday and played basketball with the kids.

"They trucked up and down the court in twenty-pound boots," Evers said with a laugh. "They were decked in their gear in case they had to leave on a call. The officers both brought donuts and took part in the event, getting off good shots in the process according to Evers.

"It was great for middle schoolers to have that positive relationship with the police department.," Evers said. "These are good guys, and great people too. They love the Dana Point community."

Evers stated that this was an amazing opportunity for the 7th Grade Boys Volleyball team to share in that camaraderie with the officers, and develop a positive relationship with police.
