Dana Point Woman's Club Awards Scholarships to DHHS Grads
Dana Point Woman's Club's May 5 meeting featured scholarship recipients Max Segal and Britney Benitez, soon to be DHHS graduates

Dana Point Woman's Club hosted DHHS students and scholarship recipients, Britney Benitez and Max Segal and their parents at its Thursday, May 5th luncheon. Project Scholarship Chair, Julie Gallups, enthusiastically commended the students, saying, "the list of achievements I’m about share about both recipients only scratches the surface of their accomplishments. They are truly worthy of these scholarships and we wish them great success in their future education."

Britney Benitez maintained both a 4.3 GPA and perfect attendance during her four years at Dana Hills High. She is President of the school's AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) Club, is an after school tutor, a folkloric dance instructor and member of the honor choir. In addition, she is a member of the National Honor Society, Dana Hills Against Racism and Dana Hills Gay-Straight Alliance and is a vocal supporter of the Black Lives Matter movement. She also serves as an education docent at the Dana Point Ocean Institute & has worked as a student researcher at the Crystal Cove Marine Life Conservatory. Britney has committed to UC Santa Cruz where she will major in neuroscience as a first-generation college student.
Max Segal currently holds a GPA of 4.4 and is a member of the National Honor Society & California Scholarship Federation. He has helped raise money on behalf of CSF through recycling events and has served as both a teacher assistant and an after-school volunteer tutor. He is a member of the Dana Hills Student Senate and founder and organizer of Cards for Humanity (encouraging covid medical workers). Max has also served as an intern at Keck Graduate Institute, CHOC Children’s Hospital, Telesquads Global Brigades, Olsen Orthodontics, & Dana Niguel Dental. In addition, he serves as drum major to South Orange County School of the Arts Marching Band where he coordinates musical performances and teaches novices new skills, seeking alternative learning methods for special needs & handicapped players. Max plans to major in economics & international business at San Diego State University.

DPWC was thrilled to fund a $1500 scholarship to each of these worthy students from proceeds of its recent fundraiser, Taking Flight- Transforming Lives. Co-President Karin Marsh said, "We were thrilled to help these very deserving students and know they will make their parents and Dana Point Woman's Club proud during their college careers."
