Last Thursday evening, Dana Point Women’s Club (DPWC) hosted the Chamber of Commerce monthly Mixer, where about 55 Chamber members happily mingled and shared business, professional and social connections while enjoying hors d’oeuvres, chocolate truffles and desserts homemade by Club members. DPWC First Vice President Judy Amiano welcomed Chamber Executive Director Vickie McMurchie and the assembled guests, expressing gratitude for a recent County grant along with growing community interest in the Club’s event space, that have facilitated both increased donations to the Club’s many philanthropic programs and additional upgrades to the 1951 building located in the heart of the Lantern District.

When not using the facility as its Clubhouse for monthly membership meetings, DPWC rents the Community House space to community groups and the general public for meetings, weddings, celebrations and events. According to DPWC Treasurer, Donna Childress, “We are a pure volunteer organization. The net proceeds from Community House rentals are used solely for two purposes: the maintenance and preservation of our building and contributions to our local charitable programs.”

Last year, preliminary renovations including new flooring and windows were made possible through a $35,000 County grant arranged by Fifth District Supervisor Katrina Foley. Since then, Club volunteers have worked hard to address deferred maintenance and further enhance the look and feel of the event venue. Thanks to a significant increase in venue rentals, the Club has been able to undertake further improvements, adding air conditioning, new lighting, modern fans and fresh paint on the entire interior and exterior. Landscaping has been improved by the Club’s “Garden Gals”, and new signage sporting an updated logo has been put in place.

“I’m so proud of our dedicated Board and membership”, said Community House Rentals Director Jody Hughes. "Not only is our facility looking amazing, but Community House is no longer the best kept secret in Dana Point. People know who and where we are, and word is getting out that this charming and affordable rental is available for meetings, small weddings, quinceañeras, celebrations of life, parties and other memorable events.” Ms. Hughes introduced the Club’s new Venue Manager, Ryann Doria, an experienced and talented wedding and eventsplanner with Ryann Kristena Events who has signed on to manage the Clubs growing events business. “I’m delighted to be a part of this dynamic group and am very excited about the opportunity to help people create memorable moments at this charming venue.” said Ms. Doria. “ It’s an extra and very special bonus that my efforts will allow the Club to expand its local charitable programs”.
