In honor of Domestic Violence Prevention Month, Dana Point Women’s Club (DPWC) hosted a speaker from Laura's House, a local philanthropy which provides education, counseling, legal services, emergency shelter and transitional housing to victims of domestic violence and abuse in Orange County. Hailee Lagrutta, Education and Outreach Specialist, made a PowerPoint presentation and provided an overview of the services offered by Laura's House, sharing details of its founding and its ongoing efforts to prevent and curb domestic violence in Orange County. Toni Nelson, DPWC First Vice President, presented a check for $1000 on behalf of Dana Point Women's Club to be used for counseling services at Laura's House.

As usual, the Club hosted an action-packed meeting in keeping with DPWC's desire to have "fun in philanthropy".

Hospitality Chair Karin Marsh and her team outdid themselves with a Halloween-themed decor and menu for the "Boo-ti-ful" meeting which featured a delicious potluck spread of spooky treats contributed by members. The Club's "Garden Gals", Judy Amiano, Penny Wetton, and Mary Ellen Marsh created beautifully decorated pumpkins, a succulent wreath and a lovely fall arrangement which were raffled or offered via silent auction to the assembled guests. Julie Barkley of Juls Julary offered handmade jewelry pieces for sale to members, and generously donated two items and 15% of meeting sales to DPWC's philanthropies.
