'Dancing' Humpbacks Wow Whale-Watching Tourists In South OC: Photos
A group of whale watchers were treated to a once-in-a-lifetime performance when humpbacks appeared to dance for them off the south OC coast.

DANA POINT, CA — Passengers traveling aboard a whale-watching tour that departed from Dana Point were treated to the performance of a lifetime by two humpback whales.
On Thursday, the Ocean Adventures vessel with Dana Wharf Whale Watching approached two humpback whales that were curious about the boat.
For more than a half hour, the two humpback whales "mugged" the boat — meaning they showed interest in the boat, got close and behaved "curiously" around it, COO of Dana Wharf Donna Kalez said.

The two whales then swam around the boat and rolled, showed off their tales and peeked their heads out of the water — a motion known as "spy hopping."
“Watching them glide through the glassy water seeming to look at us as we watched them was magical,” Kalez said.

Drone footage from the encounter shows the two whales floating upright, as if engaging in a ballroom dance for the passengers aboard the boat.
