DPWC Hosts Second Cocktails for a Cause Benefiting Spark Point

Dana Point Woman's Club hosted a successful fundraiser Wednesday evening benefiting United Way OC's program, Spark Point in Dana Point.

Aventura Sailing Club in Dana Point harbor was abuzz with activity Wednesday evening as the Dana Point Woman’s Club hosted its second annual Cocktails for a Cause benefiting Spark Point in Dana Point. Spark Point is a highly successful financial literacy and homelessness prevention program sponsored by United Way OC.

Cocktails for a Cause guests enjoyed themselves at Wednesday’s fundraiser at the Aventura Sailing Club venue in Dana Point harbor.

The evening featured cocktails, delicious hors d’oeuvres served on the venue’s patio, and an array of enticing raffle and silent auction baskets featuring everything from sailing and motor yacht cruises to a movie night, several arrays of fine wines, and a basket of popular children’s books. DPWC members provided homemade cookies and bars, adding a sweet treat to the event. Entertainment was provided by popular local musician, Anthony Small.

We were so pleased to have an almost sold out attendance again this year.” said event chair and 3rd Vice President Marla Freeman. "It was a lively evening and everyone had a great time. “ Co-President Karin Marsh was “so pleased to hold this event for a second time. Spark Point is a wonderful local program that helps prevent homelessness. We are thrilled to be founding members and to continue to support this worthy cause with the public’s help.”

A fourth cohort of 25 couples and single parents are currently enrolled in one-on-one counseling in the quarterly SparkPoint program offered at RH Dana Elementary School to help struggling families go from “surviving to thriving”. By the end of the year, 200 families will have completed the two year old program, learning how to enhance their income, reduce expenses, budget, manage credit and start a savings account.
