Dana Point Woman’s Club enlisted the help of its members in a recent Project Literacy book drive for RH Dana Elementary. And boy, did they deliver! Hundreds of books were either sent directly to the school or brought to the Club’s Back to School/Back to Business meeting held on September 8th at Dana West Yacht Club.

DPWC Co-Presidents Betty Hill and Karin Marsh were on hand at RH Dana Elementary School with several DPWC members, along with Monarch Beach Sunrise Rotary Club President L. J. Cibelli, to present an impressive pile of books to RH Dana Principal, Kristen Nelson and school staff.

At DPWC’s request, the school librarian and classroom teachers created an Amazon wish list containing titles needed in its library and classrooms. Later, the Rotary Club contacted the Woman’s Club, asking if they could partner with them in a philanthropic cause as part of its tribute to September 11. Project Literacy was a great fit. Rotary Club members were able to contribute additional books and in the end, a substantial portion of the wish list was fulfilled.

Principal Kristen Nelson and excited students help with book delivery

DPWC Co-President Betty Hill said “ What a wonderful opportunity to help students and further our Project Literacy goals! It’s great to know that our contribution will provide excellent books to the school library and classroom teachers. We were thrilled to help.” Principal Kristen Nelson and staff were delighted with the concept and extremely grateful for the contribution.

Recording Secretary Carol Kelly had a reminder: “There are still books left on the Wish List. The public is welcome to help. Simply go to the Wish List on Amazon.com and send a book directly to the school."
