Explosion, Possible Bomb Threat In Dana Point

DANA POINT, CA —A loud explosion was heard by hundreds in the area of Doheny Park Road just 11 a.m., Wednesday, according to reports.

Deputies in the area heard what they believed to be an explosion, Orange County Sheriff's Department spokeswoman Carrie Braun told Patch. They called for the bomb squad and the Orange County Fire Authority Hazmat teams to respond to the area, though OCFA was "waved off" from the scene.

An elementary school in the area was placed on a brief "shelter in place" during the initial investigation, she said.

The bomb squad is determining what occurred and investigating in the area. As of this report, no witnesses have come forward.
