Fire Destroys Portion Of South OC Home, 1 Person Detained

Firefighters managed to save a portion of the coastal home, though damages were expected to range between $750,000 and $1 million.

SAN CLEMENTE, CA — Firefighters were hard at work following a residential fire in South Orange County following a residential fire Sunday morning, in which one person was detained.

The fire broke out shortly before 5:30 a.m. in the 2300 block of Calle La Serna in San Clemente. Firefighters worked to quell the flames for 49 minutes, authorities said on X, and a significant portion of the home was destroyed.

According to OCFA, an estimated $750,000 in damage was done to the home and roughly $250,000 in damage was done to the contents.

Information was not immediately provided on the person who was detained after the fire was extinguished.

The investigation is currently ongoing, authorities reported.

According to The Orange County Register, homes in the neighborhood — on the inland side of the Interstate 5 Freeway and near a golf course — are valued at more than $2 million on real estate websites.
