This beautiful giant was spotted lunging into the air off the coast of Dana Point Thursday during a Dana Wharf whale watching tour.

DANA POINT, CA — Marine enthusiasts traveling with the crew behind Dana Wharf Sportfishing and Whale Watching received a special surprise during Thursday's ocean tour.

A humpback whale made several appearances throughout the day, Dana Wharf Sportfishing and Whale Watching COO Donna Kalez told Patch.

"The humpback whale was surface feeding, using both horizontal and vertical lunges," Kalez said.

Kalez said the whale stayed close to the Dana Point headlands Thursday afternoon.

"As we were leaving, we saw the whale's massive tail as it threw it high in the air before crashing back into the water," Kalez said.
