Laguna Niguel Gas Leak Results In Widespread Street Closures
Several streets in Laguna Niguel were blocked off by authorities Thursday in response to a gas leak.

LAGUNA NIGUEL, CA — A gas leak in Laguna Niguel resulted in the shutdown of several streets and an ongoing SigAlert Thursday morning as authorities respond to the scene, Orange County Sheriff's Department reported.
The affected streets are Camino Capistrano and Avery Parkway, eastbound Paseo de Colinas and Star Drive and the westbound Avery Parkway California State route 5 off-ramp. The streets will be closed for an undetermined amount of time while Southern California Gas Company assesses and fixes the leak.
OCSD Public Information Officer Sgt. Ryan Anderson said that the leak was not a result of failed equipment or a corroded line. OCSD authorities are working in unified command with the Orange County Fire Authority to keep the streets clear while the gas line is repaired.

"As of right now, it's an ongoing incident and units are responding," Anderson said.
The freeway's off-ramp closure resulted in slow-moving traffic traveling south Thursday morning, and residents are advised to steer clear from this area of the freeway while authorities work the scene.
