Laguna Niguel Rape Suspect Arrested, Held On $100K Bail: Cops

LAGUNA NIGUEL, CA —A 27-year-old man was behind bars Thursday on a charge of raping a neighbor in his apartment complex in Laguna Niguel a year ago.

Cristian Arteaga was arrested Tuesday and is being held on $100,400 bail according to authorities.

In November he was charged with rape by use of drugs, unauthorized use of personal identifying information and fraudulent acquisition, use or transfer of access cards, all felonies.

Orange County Sheriff's Department Sgt. Todd Hylton reported that the Arteaga is accused of raping a woman in her mid-20s in the parking lot of the apartment complex where they both lived on March 16, 2020.

It was unclear whether they were previously acquainted.

He allegedly attacked the woman, who was returning home, in a car between 1 and 4 a.m., Hylton said.

Arteaga is scheduled to be arraigned Aug. 3 in the jail courtroom in Santa Ana.
