Live Poetry Open Mic Reading At Laguna Niguel Community Center
Tortured or not. it's National Poetry Month. In Laguna Niguel, poets of all ages are encouraged to take the stage and read original poetry.

LAGUNA NIGUEL, CA — It's a great month for poets in South Orange County. A poetry reading on Thursday afternoon.
The live poetry reading is planned between 1 and 3 p.m. at the community center located at 24603 Aliso Creek Road, Laguna Niguel, at the intersection of Aliso Creek Road and Moulton Parkway.
Laguna Niguel Author MaryAnn Easley, an award-winning author, educator, and poet, will lead the poetry reading. She is the author of numerous young adult novels, including the award-winning book "I Am the Ice Worm," a Junior Library Guild selection. She hosts regular writing classes at the community center where the poetry reading is scheduled, according to a center spokesperson.

"National Poetry Month is celebrated each April as a way to keep an awareness of the best words placed in the best order," Easley said. This is an open invitation for all poets in Orange County.
Readers are limited to three minutes but might enjoy an extra turn if time allows.

"Published poets are welcome to share their books," she said. "Yet-to-be-published poets will be inspired."
According to the center, the event is an annual celebration in Laguna Niguel, designed to bring like-minded creatives together each spring.
"National Poetry Month encourages us to find our way back to poetry and renew our appreciation for the art form," Easley said. "The Academy of American Poets states that poetry, like music, predates literacy, and there has most likely never been a culture without it."
