Local Youth Sailors Compete in International Event
82 of the world's top Sea Scouts vie for the 2016 William I. Koch International Sea Scout Cup
Congratulations to the members of Dana Point’s Mariners 936 Sea Scouts who recently took part in the William I. Koch International Sea Scout Cup, scoring healthy 4th, 5th, 8th and 13th places in a competition that included 41 teams of young sailors. A total of 82 of the world’s top Sea Scouts competed in CFJ sail boats in a series of match races in the waters off of Long Beach. This week-long biannual Sailing Regatta brought together young adults from around the world with a passion for the sport of sailing. Participants ranged in age from 14 years of age to 20 and travelled from as far away as Australia, Brazil, Germany, Finland, Ireland, Norway, New Zealand and South Africa as well as other areas of the US. The 2016 winners were a team from New Zealand, upsetting a long history of wins by the US which will be hotly contested again in 2018!
