Mansions Overlooking Eroding Dana Point Cliffside Deemed Safe For Now
The multi-million dollar homes on the Dana Point coast appeared to be in danger of collapsing due to a landslide over the weekend.

DANA POINT, CA — Three cliffside homes affected by the recent deluge of rain across Orange County are being monitored but don’t appear to be in imminent danger, county officials said Monday.
The announcement comes after reports of gravel and rock sliding near the homes circulated across the county.
According to ABC7, the estate-style homes located along Scenic Drive in Dana Point were threatened after a cliffside gave way over the weekend.

The report was addressed by Orange County District Supervisor Katrina Foley, who said the aerial images of the cliffside “looks more dramatic than it actually is.”
Foley told City News Service that the Dana Point city manager sent a building inspector out to the three homes, and no structural damage was reported.

The homes are not expected to be red-tagged and no evacuations were planned, Foley said.
Regardless, city officials will continue monitoring the cliffside for any further movement in the future.
With the ground so saturated and with more rain expected, there is potential for additional land movement along the shoreline, Foley said.
