
McDowell School Art Program Ranks #10 in the State!
Gurnee, IL – Lisa Abbassi, art teacher at McDowell School in Laguna Niguel, California, deserves to take a step out of the art room and into the spotlight. Abbassi has been recognized by Artsonia – the world’s largest online kid’s art museum – for outstanding leadership in the area of Arts Education at McDowell School. The school’s online art gallery – www.artsonia.com/schools/McDowell10 – ranks #10 in the state, according to Artsonia.
The Leadership Award presented to Lisa Abbassi honors teachers who go beyond the classroom walls to encourage family and community involvement in arts education. The award also recognizes significant achievement in the area of technology integration within the school arts program. State rankings are based on specific criteria, which demonstrates both aspects of the Leadership Award.

Whil teachers in more than 100 countries showcase their student artwork on ARtsonia, Lisa Abbassi has created a school community deserving of recognition. During the 2013-2014 school year, the McDowell School gallery showcased 1890 pieces of artwork. This popular collection of art has been visited more than 31,659 times and has recieved 123 comments from friends and family. “Artsonia is a simple yet effective way to get parents and family members more involved in Art Education.” said Abbassi, “and my students love it!”
In addition, family members can purchase keepsakes imprinted with the child’s artwork, with Artsonia donating 20 percent of their annual product revenue back to the school art program.
