Mother's Day 2017: Take Mom Whale Watching In Dana Point

DANA POINT, CA — This Mother's Day, there is no better gift than the opportunity to spot a mama whale with her babies off the coast of Dana Point. On Mother's Day, May 14, reservations are open for a Relaxing Mother’s Day Cruise. Starting at 10 a.m., the Two Hour Coastal Cruise aboard the Ocean Adventures Catamaran.

This trip will depart Dana Point Harbor and cruise up the coastline to Laguna Beach. Served during the excursion, “MOMosa” or Champagne, fresh seasonal fruit, juices, pastries and muffins.

In addition, all whale watching cruises on Mother’s Day will serve moms a complimentary glass of champagne. ($49 adults; $29 kids)

May also marks the start of the blue whales season off the coast of Dana Point. Between now and October, Dana Point will witness the largest animal on earth, the Blue whales, they are a rare and amazing sight, not to be missed. In addition to the Blue whales, year round whale watchers will get the chance to see the magnificent Humpback Whale, Fin Whale and a variety of dolphins will entertain the boat loads of guests that visit Dana Point each year.

On April 17, Dana Wharf Whale Watching videoed a mother and baby gray whale spotted playing during a recent whale watching excursion.

"There is nothing cuter than to see a baby playing in the water with its mom," Gaye Jacobs, spokesperson for Dana Wharf Wale Watching said. "It turns out this baby whale has quite the talent for blowing bubbles."

"We interact with over 1000 whales during the Gray whale migration in the winter and view hundreds of 90 feet Blue whales in the summer," Jacobs said. "Sightings of Orca, Humpback, Sperm and Finback Whales are not uncommon."

More than just whales, Dana Wharf Whale Watching can also expose visitors to sights of thousands of dolphins, sea lions, sea faring birds and even sharks are found year-round in our waters.
