My Socially Distant Trip to Dana Point

I have taken a number of trips to Dana Point. Whenever life becomes too mundane, I pack my stuff and head out to my favorite place on planet earth.

Unfortunately, it’s been several months since I last visited the beach. I wrote about my last trip while cooped up inside my home, trying to avoid a deadly virus.

The number of active COVID cases in Orange County has gone down since but things are still far from ideal.

So it wasn’t easy to decide whether I should go on this trip. On one hand, you have to think about the health and safety of your family. On the other, you cannot avoid the outside forever.

But after much soul searching and consulting with a doctor friend, I decided that my family needed an outing after months of isolation.

Preparing for the Trip

As a regular at the harbor, I had pretty much everything that was needed for this adventure. Only thing I needed was some colorful and stylish masks for my children. I thought those would better fit the theme of the trip compared to the bland surgical masks I had at home.

So I ordered a bunch of those after getting a discount code from EMUCoupon that gave me 15% off.

Once everything was packed and ready, we took the drive to the harbor.

Our Socially Distant Adventure

It was a short drive that barely lasted a single song. Ironically, the radio was playing Stayin’ Alive by Bee Gees.

We arrived at 10 am just in time for breakfast.

A trip to Dana Point without breakfast at Proud Mary’s is a nothing but a waste of time. The restaurant remains open till 12 pm but serves breakfast only between 8 am-2 pm. Yes. It tasted as good as it looks.

It was refreshing to experience the sea after months of being locked up inside our home. While experiencing this beauty of nature, I couldn’t help but tear up a little.

While it’s unusual for my family to have breakfast so early in the day, the kids and I couldn’t help ourselves around Lil Skipper.

There’s nothing better than seeing your young one make her first (and second) big catch. Special thanks to Dana Wharf Sportfishing for this lovely little adventure. There’s no one better when it comes to organizing fishing trips.

It was a pleasant surprise to find out that the Pet Project Foundation was hosting “Doggy Day Out”. They were raising money for the animal shelter by collaborating with local business at Dana Points. I couldn’t stop myself from capturing this fantabulous trio on camera.

I had brought a drone to take some wide shots of Dana Point. There were some issues with my machine and this was the only snap I could manage. Better than nothing, I guess.
