No, That's Not Santa: OCFA Rescues Man From South County Chimney

A frantic rescue call late Thursday ended with Orange County Fire Authority's dismantling of this Laguna Niguel chimney.

LAGUNA NIGUEL, CA - An Orange County man found himself in a tight spot this week. Thanks to emergency personnel, a trapped man was rescued from a Laguna Niguel chimney in the wee hours of Friday morning, according to Orange County Fire Authority.

Crews were called about 11:15 p.m. for the bizarre chimney rescue at a home on the 30300 block of Via Alcazar Avenue, OCFA Capt. Tony Bommarito reported.

With firefighters both inside and on the roof of the residence, they began efforts to extract the man from the precarious situation.

Using technical rescue gear, firefighters began the process of dislodging the entrapped man from inside the chimney. Ultimately, they went to the roof for the best access.

Rescue teams dismantled the chimney and freed the man around 1 a.m., the Fire Authority said.

The man was not injured during the incident, according to Capt. Bommarito.
