OC Beach Ranked No. 7 Best 'Secret' Beach In The U.S.: Report

The south Orange County-area beach is known for its popular surf, small off-shore reefs and gorgeous views.

DANA POINT, CA — Salt Creek Beach in Dana Point was listed as the seventh-best "hidden" beach in the country, according to a study done by FamilyDestinationGuide.com.

The ranking comes after the travel planning website polled 3,000 families across the nation to "determine the hidden beaches they most want to visit in summer 2023."

The Golden State garnered the second-most "hidden gem" beaches, with eight making the ranks. Florida clinched No. 1 with nine — four in the top 10. Hawaii came in third with five overall beaches ranking and three in the top 10.

The seven over California beaches appearing on the list were:

  • No. 8 Wildcat Beach in Point Reyes.
  • No. 12 Hollywood Beach in Oxnard.
  • No. 21 Enderts Beach near Crescent City.
  • No. 22 Bowling Ball Beach in Mendocino.
  • No. 25 Gray Whale Cove near Pacifica.
  • No. 33 Montaña de Oro State Park, south of Morro Bay
  • No. 35 Haskell’s Beach in Santa Barbara
