OCFA HazMat Team Investigates Suspicious Material Found In Laguna Niguel Mail

LAGUNA NIGUEL, CA — If you saw the HazMat team in the area of Palazzo and Son Serra in Laguna Niguel Monday, this is why.
The Orange County Fire Authority's hazardous materials team responded to a Laguna Niguel residence on Monday to investigate a suspicious substance that was discovered in the mail.
A resident on Palazzo in Laguna Niguel reported finding suspicious substance in a piece of mail that originated from another country, according to OCFA Capt. Larry Kurtz.

"The Hazardous Materials Team arrived at the residence, on Palazzo, to investigate at approximately 1:30 p.m. on Monday," Kurtz said.
The residents waited off site while the team did their work, and determined that the substance in question was not dangerous, according to Kurtz.

"The okay to return was given at approximately 3 p.m.," Kurtz said.
Every hazardous material call is handled with the utmost care according to Kurtz.
"Most of the time it turns out that the substance is non-hazardous," he said. "However, until we prove otherwise, all cases are treated as hazardous."
