Popular South OC Beach Trail Set To Reopen After 2-Year Closure

The closures were prompted by landslides and repairs that have closed sections of the trail over the last two years.

SAN CLEMENTE, CA — A popular beach trail is returning to Orange County.

The length San Clemente's beach trail is expected to reopen to the public this week after landslides and repairs forced officials to close sections of the trail over the last two years.

The closure was initially triggered in 2024, when a hillside collapse during a wet winter destroyed the Mariposa Bridge north of the pier, severing the beach trail.

The work is part of a Coastal Rail Emergency Project that spans seven miles of train tracks through Dana Point and San Clemente, according to transportation officials.

While the entire project was priced at about $93 million, the beach trail cost about $24 million, transportation officials said.
