Rabid Bat Found In Laguna Niguel

A rabid bat was discovered in Laguna Niguel's Regional Park on Tuesday. If you touched it, you need to be tested for rabies, OC Health says.

LAGUNA NIGUEL, CA — If you touched a bat near the Laguna Niguel Regional Park Tuesday, you need to be tested for rabies, according to OC Health. The Regional Park was a buzz with activity on Tuesday, when county officials reported that a rabid bat was discovered.

The bat tested positive for rabies, Orange County Health Care Agency officials said.

Anyone who may have made contact with the bat, which was found near the entrance to the park on Friday, was asked to call the Orange County Health Care Agency so they can be tested for rabies.

A bat's teeth are small so a bite might go unnoticed, according to the HCA. When symptoms are displayed, the disease is nearly always deadly. Preventive treatment, however, is "safe and effective," health officials said.
