Rare Sight: Great Horned Owl Spotted In South OC Backyard
A San Juan Capistrano resident captured these stunning photographs of a great horned owl visiting her backyard.
SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, CA — One south Orange County resident received a very special visit from a bird of prey.
San Juan Capistrano resident Kristine Erickson regularly photographs images of nature — from dragonflies to great egrets, Kristine captures it all with her camera.

Last Thursday, Kristine received a visit from a surprise visitor and immediately rushed to get her camera.

"My first ever owl hooting brought this vision," Kristine told Patch. "First time in my life I've ever seen an owl in my backyard."
Great horned owls are native to North America and Mexico, but while they are common to the area, they are rarely seen due to their nocturnal habits and superb camouflage.
