DANA POINT, CA — Travelers aboard a Dana Wharf Sportfishing and Whale Watching vessel were treated to a breathtaking sight this week: a mega-pod of common dolphin.

"We saw a mega-pod of at least 1,500 long-beaked common dolphin stretched out for almost a mile racing toward us," Dana Wharf COO Donna Kalez told Patch. "Truly an amazing sight — especially for our first time whale watchers."

The mega-pod was spotted off the coast of south San Clemente. According to Kalez, the pod was headed toward San Onofre when it passed the Dana Wharf vessel.
