South Orange County Community College District Trustee Area 3 Election
Kimberly Clark, Candidate for South Orange County Community College District
South Orange County, CA. Board of Trustees candidate Kimberly Clark reiterated her desire to serve as the South Orange County Community College District Trustee for Area 3. With her student centered focus, conservative fiscal management, plans to invest in faculty and staff, protecting educational quality, and valuing community partnerships, Clark pledges a new voice for real change for the SOCCCD community
As the election for the Trustee seat for Area 3 draws near, Ms. Clark reminded voters of interim Trustee Bobbie Jay’s vow not to seek election to the Board of Trustees once her term expires on December 2, 2016. Dr. Jay was appointed to the Board of Trustees for Area 3 on April 28, 2015. The appointment came after the Board of Trustees sought to save an estimated $24 million to hold another election.
One of the factors that the Board of Trustees took into consideration when appointing Bobbie Jay was her pledge not to seek election. Trustee Prendergast said “Bobbie Jay’s decision not to run in the 2016 election was definitely taken into consideration and had a positive influence on his vote,” Ms. Clark reminded voters. “While I respect Ms. Jay’s service to SOCCCD Area 3, it is nevertheless time for progressive change to come and Ms. Jay should uphold her promise to the community not to seek election to the Board.”

Ms. Clark also noted that candidate Peter Espinosa is beholden to the totality of the special interests of the community college district. As a professor, counselor, an assistant to the chancellor, a member of the academic senate, faculty association member, and union representative, Mr. Espinosa may not be the choice with an independent voice. His claim to be a bridge builder is certainly in contrast to his role as a lead proponent of the recall effort to oust members of the CUSD Board of Trustees in 2010.
“I strongly believe that students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community deserve a new voice on our Board of Trustees,” Kimberly asserted, and “It is time to lead in a new direction.”
