'Stairwave' Mural Opens In Dana Point At Lantern Bay Park
The mural spans roughly 364-feet and was created by an award-winning artist known for her intricate stained-glass mosaics.

DANA POINT, CA — The stairwell descending from Lantern Bay Park has opened to the public as a new artistic focal point in Dana Point, after the city hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony for the new mosaic mural on the stairs called "Stairwave."

The mural was created by artist Mia Tavonatti, an award-winning artist known for her intricate stained-glass mosaics.
According to the city, Tavonatti designed the piece and created the mosaic with her team and local volunteers at her studio. The mosaic took roughly ten months to create and three weeks to install.

"It is mostly hand made ceramic rikes and some fused glass pieces," Tavonatti told Patch. "My usual glass mosaic work would not be durable enough for public stair risers."

Residents were encouraged to check out the roughly 364-feet of mosaic tile on the Lantern Bay Park stairs at the corner of Golden Lantern and Dana Point Harbor Drive.
