Tree Trimmer Dies In Laguna Hills Eucalyptus Tree Accident

Witnesses saw the unconscious man trapped in the 40-foot tree, and a technical rescue was needed to bring him down.

LAGUNA HILLS, CA —A worker who was found unconscious 40-feet up a eucalyptus tree was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Orange County Fire Authority.

Firefighters Tuesday were attempting to rescue an unconscious tree trimmer stuck on the 25000 block of Barents in Laguna Hills shortly before 5 p.m.

"Two residents noticed the worker was unresponsive in the tree," OCFA Capt. Tony Bommarito said.

The private tree trimmer was working in the 40-foot tall tree, "when it appears a large limb struck him," Bommarito said.

Firefighters arriving at the scene were concerned the tree trimmer's injuries were fatal, which was confirmed shortly after that.

The unidentified man was covered with "heavy" tree limbs, making it difficult for firefighters to reach him, Bommarito said. A ladder truck "crane" and technical rescue were required to free the victim's body.

His name has not yet been released, pending notification of next of kin.
