1 Injured In Bicycle Crash In La Jolla Shores

No cars were directly involved in the crash, but the nature of how the bicycles collided wasn't immediately clear.

SAN DIEGO, CA – One person was injured Friday morning when two bicyclists crashed on a steep roadway in La Jolla Shores near the Scripps Institution of Oceanography above the Scripps Memorial Pier, police said.

The crash happened about 9:10 a.m. in the 8700 block of La Jolla Shores Drive, near the Naga Way entrance to the ocean research facility, San Diego police Officer Tony Martinez said. No cars were directly involved in the crash, but the nature of how the bicycles collided wasn't immediately clear.

One of the riders sustained a possible broken shoulder among other potential injuries, Martinez said. No injuries to the second bicyclist were initially reported.

Police were still on scene as of 10 a.m. investigating the crash, the officer said. La Jolla Shores Drive, which connects La Jolla Shores to the UC San Diego campus on the bluff above it, was still blocked about an hour after the crash.
